The Steps to becoming a DC member

The Steps to Become a Dreamteam Member:
1.   Show up to the first meeting (If you have a sports conflict please contact Sophia Busacca or Isabella Busacca by emailing at skbusacca@gmail.com or iabusacca@gmail.com )
2.      There are only 15 spots available for the next training session, which will be held in November. We apologize for all those that do have a sports conflict.  It will be held on a Saturday for 4 hours in the morning.  It will educate you on your commitment to the hospice and what a hospice does specifically.  Our volunteer coordinator at Hoffmann Hospice is going to have another one for us this spring if you cannot make the fall training.
3.     The main hospice requirements:
·       You must get a TB test after the training. You have a week to get it after training before they drop you as a volunteer.  The test is painless and the hospice covers the expenses.  You just need to drive to the building downtown where they test you.
·       They need your social security number for liability issues.  Please talk to your parents about this; they will not accept you as a volunteer without this.
·       Be willing to attend the different activities and volunteer hours.  You are required to volunteer at the hospice with us once a month.  We typically work Friday after school from 3:40 to 5:00.
·       You need to be comfortable with seeing hospital devices.  There will be oxygen tanks, tubes, and other devices to keep the patient comfortable.  If you have trouble with seeing certain medical devices, this is probably not fit for you.
·       You need to purchase a shirt and a sweat shirt; it will be around $40.00 and black or khaki pants.
·         We have a certain dress code that we have to follow when we go to the hospice- no blue jeans (We are allowed to wear khaki and black jeans), no shorts, and close toed shoes.  These rules mainly apply when you visit a patient.  Because everyone in the club is considered a minor, you will not visit a patient without a trained adult.  You will never go alone.
4.     You have to sign a conduct contract as well with Hoffmann.
·       We don’t expect to have trouble with anyone, but please remember this club revolves around people who are at the end of their life.  You need to be able to speak politely, no pictures, no social media postings.  The training will go more into this.
5.     You need to be able to speak in front of people. Our group is just one of many across the Dreamcatchers. We do a lot of public speaking for groups. As well, it is a good skill for talking to our patients. For more information on how this club started go to: http://dreamcatchers1.com/contactus.html
6.     There is a lot of steps to get on the team, but they are a lot of fun and being in the club will give you amazing life experiences. Like we said earlier, the training has limited spots.  If we cannot squeeze you in this training, please know that we will try our best to get you into the next one (:

Club Day Info

Hey guys! Club day was a huge success, we had about 100 people sign up for Dreamcatchers at Liberty! We are going to need to get together to divide the numbers up.  As well, we are going to need to call a meeting for the new members next week.  I am thinking Tuesday, 4th Lunch in Koulos and 5th Lunch in Dr, Singhs.

As well here is the task list for the current dream:
1. Call Universal Studios
2. Call Best Western, Shearton, and try to get a room donated for a night next week
3. Food gift cards
4. make cards for the son and caretaker

All new members will be required to:
1. Give their social security to Hoffmann
2. Get a TB test a week after training, if they do not get this the Hospice will not allow for them to be a volunteer unfortunately, and it is on a time scale, so they would have to do it right after training. It is free and provided by the hospice
3. Need to volunteer a Friday a month at Hoffmann
4. attend all meetings and most importantly be there for our first meeting so they can officially be signed up (:
5. be motivated!

Thank you (:

Wendy Wayne Day

Wendy taught this community to love.  She taught us to be nice and make life better for the people around you.  Today we asked people to "pay it forward," in honor of Wendy.  Thank you to all of you who came out.  In the Sophia and Sophie Live post there are tasks you can take up if you missed the event.  The last picture is the Dreamcatchers with Benji Wayne Tackett, Wendy's son, and the proclamation of July 9, 2012 Wendy Wayne Day.  Thank you Benji for coming out today; your family is wonderful.  Thank you to all of you who came out today as well, and those who made this event possible, we could not have done it without the Ford DreamBuilder's team and Mikie Hay; the director of the Ford DreamBuilder team. Thank you to KGET 17 and the Bakersfield Californian who promoted the event, and to Molly Busacca the Dreamcatcher club Mom.  Thank you to Gene Tackett, Larkin Tackett, and the entire Wayne Tackett family for letting Dreamcatchers have the opportunity to put on the event.  We love Bakersfield...we got the news you all started early and already began to fulfill dreams by purchasing Starbucks for the person behind you in line!

Sophia and Sophie Live

Sophia Busacca and Sophie Constantine were on 17 KGET Sunrise news today at 6:20 live.  They were asked questions about the club Dreamcatchers, and then promoted "Pay it Forward for Wendy Wayne Day."
Here are a list of tasks to choose from if you are unable to attend today.
1. Buy the person's coffee behind you.
2. Wash an elder neighbor's car
3. Bake cookies for your neighborhood
4. Make the dinner for a soup kitchen
5. Bring your old clothes to kids in need
6. Help a local teacher get ready for the Fall
7. Write letters to veterans
8. Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen
9. Preserve your water! Do not waste it, and donate money for kids to have fresh water. Click here for a great way to fulfill this deed!

The Color Purple

Why are we such big fans of the color purple? Purple is the color of our club, because it symbolizes love, happiness, faith, hope, and life.  Purple is a unique color that happens to appear in many shades.  It is a cathartic color that you want to wear on days that seem to be gloomy; it turns those days into happy days.  Dream Catcher's at Liberty wants to bring our patients smiles all day, and we want to cherish the small moments and things.  Life is not all about the big things, it is the small things that matter the most.  Did someone smile at you who never smiles at you; do you recall that moment?  Do you remember when someone paid for your meal when you were out at dinner?  Did you ever take a picture in your mind of a beautiful day, can you remember that moment like it was yesterday? Wear a little purple, and "Do all things with Love."

Pay it Forward for Wendy Wayne

The Legend of the Dream Catcher

Native Americans believe the night air is filled with dreams... both good and bad. The Dream Catcher, when hung over or near your bed, swings freely in the air and catches the dreams as they flow by.
The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher, slipping through the outer holes and sliding down the soft feathers so gently that many times the sleeping person does not know he or she is dreaming. The bad dreams get tangled in the dream catcher and never see the next light of day.
Our Dream Team uses the Dream Catcher to find the good dreams and get them to our patient.

The 2012 Shirts

The Dreamteam created their shirt for the 2012 team.  We are so lucky to be working with an excellent group at Liberty High school and cannot wait to dive into the 2012 year.  Thank you to Western Graphics for the design.  We will wear these shirts with our khaki pants, jeans, and shorts.  We are also hoping to purchase uniform shoes; we match so we look ready to capture a dream for our patients.  If you are on the team get ready for an amazing summer, and help spread the word for next year's potential members!

Hoffmann Hospice Article

The Busacca family was featured with the first dream for the Bakersfield LHS branch of Dreamcatchers in the latest Hoffman Hospice magazine. They gave a man and his wife doggy baskets for their 5 wonderful puppies. It was an absolutely wonderful experience to understand that it really is the little things that matter the most in life. To read the article please click the link and scroll to the last page.

LHS Dreamteam

Liberty's Dreamteam is a student sponsored group at Liberty High School.  The Busacca triplets picked up Caitlin Crommet's club.  We are working through Hoffman Hospice.  The goal of DC is to provide for the elderly and grant them their final wishes.  The elders are wise people, who we can take a lot from.  We are looking forward to granting many wishes this summer.
